Welcome to

Gay and Lesbian perspective of the Las Vegas Nightlife Scene

‘Tis the Season…

That’s right, homo boys and girls! It’s that most wonderful time of the year when Parents and Friends of Lesbians And Gays, closeted coworkers, softball players, and interior decorators alike come out of the woodworks to celebrate all things queer. Las Vegas joins cities across the nation in celebrating Gay Pride 2005 with a full week of lavish parties and unabashed Rainbow-worship, starting on Monday May 25th and culminating on Sunday May 29th.

Anyone who’s been to Vegas will tell you that “Sin City” has a vibe of its own- a pulsing heartbeat that seems to radiate from the Strip. The same goes for any Gay Pride celebration – there’s a subtle energy felt by all…kind of like a big, invisible hug. That emotive combo is what makes Vegas Pride such a unique experience. Once a year, all the bright lights and flashing neon signs are effectively upstaged by trash-talking --“Did I shove my dick up my ass for THIS?”--drag queens with their sequined gowns and outrageous costumes. Even the dazzling Fremont Street Experience becomes a mere backdrop as thousands of rainbow-clad onlookers gather for Downtown’s infamous night-time Pride Parade.

The highlight, at least for me and my friends, is the outdoor Pride Festival held at the Sports Center. Pretty much, we spend the whole day getting hammered (many thanks to gay-friendly Bud Light) and scoping out cute girls. There are plenty of other things going on like live music, food on skewers, vendor booths, games—you know, festival type shit. Highlights from last year include: sitting on The Big Red Chair, dodging people I recognized from work, collapsing in the rubble of a human pyramid, drunk softball dykes having their asses handed to them in the batting cages, and a sense of urgency that “We Musht…Get to…the Afshter Pa-ahrty…eeOWW!!”

With the recent addition of KRAVE and better promotion of special events at clubs like Free Zone and Gipsy, 2005 just might be the biggest and best Vegas Pride in years. Gay, Bi, Trans, or Straight, come join the festivities! Check out the calendar of events below.
