The Next Generation of Swine
In the past year we have been stocking up on punk bands, art pieces and nightclubs. Is this a master plan by the City Legislature to light a cultural fire under our obscure and somber neighborhoods? Or is it the youth uprising against the image of hairy knuckled mobsters in white on white ties, pushing titty bars and loaded dice down our throat? I believe it to be the first generation of actual locals, born and raised and tired of all the bullshit.
I think it has a lot to do with people like Cindy Funkhouse who founded First
Friday, the event that has fanned the Art District’s
growth. And Rob Ruckus who has single handedly kept the
Rock soundtrack of Las Vegas alive for years. The Hard
Rock for being the first casino to raise the bar on the
style of our nightlife. These are all completely
different walks of life, but what do all of these things
have in common? Well, we are the first generation not to
be consumed by the American Dream of winning it big. We
have finally found what truly makes us happy… Being
ourselves! Doing what we want, when we want it and most
importantly, having the means to do it by. Vegas hasn’t
been much of a “community,” let alone one that will
spend money on events for the youth. So damn it, we will
make our own fun! With all that and the fact that there
is no last call, Las Vegas is truly a great place to
live! Or is it?
